Bob attended University of Maryland and University of Baltimore. Other educational accomplishments include, an AA Degree in Data Processing from Community College of Baltimore and is a licensed Certified Computer Programmer.
Bob is also a member of the Maryland Society of Hospital Information Systems Management.
In the 1970's, Bob refined and systematized the hospital Financial Software that St. Paul uses today. When DRG's were introduced in the early 1980's, Bob designed and programmed the DRG Grouper programs that operated on St. Paul's mainframe and P/C server computers. Bob has become an expert in DRG grouping and has written the original Canadian "CMG" grouper which is the basis for the current system used throughout Canada.
Bob designed and programmed the St. Paul "Cost Accounting" system for hospitals, which is marketed across the U.S. and Canada. This system was designed for mainframe computers or large P/C's running under a Windows/OS/2 environment with ad-hoc reporting done through an interactive SQL. Bob also designed and programmed the St. Paul "Nurse Executive System". He configured an "English" DRG grouper which lead nurses through words and various body parts to get a DRG assignment. The "Nurse Executive System" predicted nurse staffing requirements based on the acuity mix of patients.
